Nuvei restricts processing refunds and credits as per internal refund policy. There may be various filters that appear if you exceed the credit limit.
For every account, Nuvei’s policy sets a credit limit equal to 100% of the total sales amount over the previous 7 days regardless of credit type. The response you would get once you pass the limit: “Credits total amount exceeds restriction”.
The calculation for the credit restriction is based on 100% of your positive sales amount over the previous seven days minus any current credit balance.
Assume that from 1/1 at 21:00 until 1/8 at 21:00, the positive balance (approved sales) was $1,000. Assume that credit transactions processed during the same period amount to $400.
Then, the allowed credit at the designated time of 1/8 at 21:00 is:
1,000*100% – 400
1,000 – 400 = 600
When reaching the above-mentioned restriction, you have two options:
- To wait for new sales to arrive, which increases your credit amount and only then to process the refunds.
- To contact your account manager or the Risk Department requesting an increase of the credit amount in accordance with your balance.
This error is activated when processing fraud credit and the amount of the credit is higher than the initial transaction amount. It can also occur when processing credit on transactions that were already credited, and the total amount of the credits is higher than the initial sale transaction amount.
This error occurs when the amount of the credit sent is higher than the permitted amount set on Nuvei’s systems, per single credit transaction per merchant. For example, a system limitation of 10,000 USD for a single credit transaction for a specific merchant.
The OCT limit is 50,000 euros or the appropriate currency equivalent per transaction. The “Limit Exceeding Amount” response is returned if the limit is passed.

Under Visa International regulations, non-money transfer OCTs can be processed up to an equivalent amount of 50,000 USD per credit card per day. For more details, please refer to the table below.
